
Microsoft has long been known as a leader in operating systems and computers. Now, they can add tablet maker to their inventory of achievements.
On Monday, executives from Microsoft proudly displayed a pair of Windows tablets which come with their own unique style of keyboard cover. The tablets are called “Microsoft Surface”.
According to a statement released by Microsoft executive Steven Sinofsky, who is President of the Windows and Windows Live Division, the Surface isn’t just another tablet, but a fully functional computing device:
“It’s a PC that is a great tablet, and a tablet that is a great PC,” said Sinofsky.
Both tablets of the Surface feature 10.6-inch screens. They also come with their own integrated kickstands, full-sized USB ports, cameras mounted on both the front and back of the device, and two Wi-Fi antennas. The antennas bring media streaming that is literally seemless.
The Windows RT is 0.1mm thinner than Apple’s new iPAD, coming in at 9.3mm (Surface for Windows 8 Pro is 13.5 mm and weighs 903 grams). Out of the two tablets, the Windows RT comes in at only 676 grams. The RT also has a display known as “ClearType HD”. The unit has the capability of storing between 32GB and 64GB and it’s Data I/O comes with USB 2.0, mcroSD and Micro HD Video ports.
